"My Life List"

In this article, McPhee starts by talking about Sandy Frazier and his adventurous taste in foods. Frazier has tried everything from chocolate-covered ants that have a "chitinous crunch" to grasshopper juice and cricket (the insect) thighs. The article then moves on to his stay with a couple (Mike and Adeline Potts) where his "life list" expands to muskrat, weasel, deer, moose, musk, ox, Dall sheep, (canned) rattle snake, and grizzly bears. The article also has names of herbs and plants I have never heard of but sound very exotic indeed.

Like every other article by McPhee, this article, too, contains hidden sarcasm and humor. But it is by far the most gruesome humor I've ever read in an article written by him. Although disgusting, it still had that characteristic that all of McPhee's articles have- they attract the reader in such a way that you cannot put the book down.

Although I am extra cautious when eating my hotdogs (they could have skunk meat in it for all I know), I would definitely recommend this article. It is very entertaining, descriptive, and , in a strange way, captivating.
